Curriculum

Summer RE (June – August)
Fruit → Table: Understanding the environmental impact of the fruit we eat through cooking by DLRE Leann

This curriculum is designed to introduce children to the environmental impact of food—specifically the fruit they eat on a regular basis. It aligns with the UU Value of “Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.”

Children’s RE (September – May)
Starwhisper Island by DLRE Leann
A community building, teamwork and problem-solving curriculum for elementary aged children. With group challenges, puzzles, and STEM activities. The children find themselves magically transported beneath the ocean, where they’ll have to deal with underwater pirates, a sea witch and a mischievous mermaid if they’re going to make it back to the surface. All with the help of a pet Octopus named Wriggle.

Timeless Themes: Stories from the Hebrew and Christian Bibles
Children will explore enduring stories of faith, justice, and humanity—free from dogma. Spanning from Genesis through the prophets, these narratives highlight our UU values, our history, and the importance of understanding the beliefs of others.

Middle School RE (September – May)
Love Pantry Youth will make bag lunches once a month to be put into the Love pantry.  They will also collect food from congregants and fill the Love Pantry once a month.

Building A Better World Roleplaying
Youth will play the role-playing game Pathfinders while exploring questions of ethics, morality, and social justice. Participants will explore the topics of race, ecology, mortality, class, abilities, goals, community, gender identity, diversity, exclusion, cultural appropriation, and all of the “ism’s” that plague our attempts to build a better world as Unitarian Universalists. We will be using Pathfinder 2e for roleplaying.

Bible Stories Without the Dogma
Through Bible stories, youth will explore major themes of the Bible alongside universal life questions. The curriculum also places these stories in their broader historical context, examining human development, the rise of agriculture and its influence on religion, and aspects of daily life in the ancient Near East—such as travel, trade, systems of labor, family structures, law, governance, taxation, and warfare. It also highlights cultural and culinary practices of the time. In addition, students will learn what preceded the events of each story and what was occurring in neighboring civilizations to provide deeper understanding and context.

Faith Formation for Adults:
UU Theology: A 6-session introduction to theological concepts through a Unitarian Universalist lens. Each session asks: What does our Unitarian Universalist tradition teach about this theological concept, and how does that help me clarify and act on my own beliefs?
