From the DLRE: Summer Sundays in RE

What will you be doing on Sundays this summer?

The children in religious education class will be cooking around the world.

Children love to eat, and they love to cook, so throughout the summer we’ll give children a “taste” of different cultures from around the world. They’ll be introduced to cultures through stories, activities, and of course food!

Some of the countries we’ll visit are: Japan, China, Argentina, United Kingdom, India, Ukraine, Italy, Australia, and Mexico This fits in with our UU principles that encourage us to learn, grow, and to value and respect each other in order to build a more peaceful world. Additionally, the stories will expose the children to lessons about helping each other, being part of a community, being adventurous, being independent, sharing and the importance of family.

Have you tried Vegemite from Australia? Sign up to join us on August 18th and you can! Do you love Mango Lassi like I do? We’re making them on July 14th; sign up on the volunteer form in George Bray Hall. How about Carob Pudding from Argentina? We’re making that on June 16th!

The middle and high school youth will have the opportunity to be our flight attendants. With all this cooking we’ll need as much help as we can get! Perhaps you’d like to join us too. Have an ethnic dish or story you’d like to share? Let me know!
